THE WINNER: Luke Fischer

THE BASICS

Athletic achievement: Fischer led the Warhawks (28-0) to a second consecutive Division 1 state championship this season. Fischer averaged 21.0 points, 9.4 rebounds, 2.9 blocks, 1.6 assists and 1.4 steals per game. The state’s 2013 Mr. Basketball as named by the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association, Fischer shot 64 percent from the field and 72.8 percent from the free throw line. Fischer totaled 32 points on 14-of-19 shooting to go along with 16 rebounds, six blocks and two assists in an 80-60 state semifinal win over Oshkosh (Wis.) North. In a 57-28 title-clinching victory against Mukwonago (Wis.), he recorded 17 points on 8-of-10 shooting, seven rebounds and two blocks. He concluded his prep career on a 56-game winning streak.

Academic excellence: Fischer has maintained a 3.08 GPA.

Exemplary character: In addition to donating his time as a youth basketball instructor, Fischer has volunteered on behalf of his church’s food drive for the needy. He has also served as part of the Germantown Youth Futures child development program and as a motivational speaker for elementary school students.

“He’s an outstanding athlete with excellent skills who makes his teammates better,” said Bob Maronde, head coach of rival Grafton (Wis.). “He could’ve easily scored 40 points a game, but it was more important to him that his team succeeds. He’s a classy young man with enormous potential and small ego.”

THE FUTURE: Fischer has signed with Indiana.
