THE WINNER: Nick Emery

THE BASICS

School: Lone Peak (Highland, Utah)
Grade: Senior
Position: Guard
Height: 6-foot-2
Weight: 182 pounds

Athletic achievement: Emery led the Knights to a 26-1 record, their third consecutive Class 5A state title and the No. 3 spot in the USA TODAY Super 25 national rankings. The state’s Gatorade Boys Basketball Player of the Year as a sophomore, Emery averaged 17.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 2.8 steals per game this season. A three-time All-State first team selection, Emery was also named Mr. Basketball by the Deseret News.

Academic excellence: Emery has maintained a 3.74 GPA.

Exemplary character: A devoted member of his church community, Emery has volunteered assisting the elderly and coaching youth basketball teams. 

THE PRAISE

“He has such unbelievable range, and if you get too close to him he’ll go right by you,” said Scott Briggs, head coach at West Jordan (Utah). “He’s phenomenal in the open floor and he has a mid-range game, too. He’s been so good for so long.” 

THE FUTURE: Emery has signed with BYU.
