THE WINNER: Steve Vasturia

THE BASICS

School: St. Joseph’s Prep (Philadelphia, Pa.)
Grade: Senior
Position: Guard
Height: 6-foot-5
Weight: 190 pounds

Athletic achievement: He led the Hawks to a 24-6 record and the semifinals of the Class AAAA tournament this past season. Vasturia averaged 20.5 points, 7.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. A First Team All-State selection, he is a two-time Philadelphia Catholic League MVP.

Academic excellence: Vasturia has maintained a 3.49 GPA.=

Exemplary character: He has volunteered locally on behalf of youth basketball programs.

THE PRAISE

“Vasturia makes everyone better,” said Joe Dempsey, head coach at rival La Salle College (Wyndmoor, Pa.). “He gets double-teamed a lot and always makes the right pass. Defensively, he guards the best player on the other team.”

THE FUTURE: Vasturia has committed to Notre Dame.
