From many, there will be one. And while there’s still no guarantee contending athletes will win their own state at this point in the season, a number of elite performers are making a case for Gatorade National Baseball Player of the Year consideration. Here’s the scoop on the latest top candidate.

Clint Frazier
Senior outfielder, Loganville (Ga.)

Greatness Present: Rated the nation’s No. 1 prospect in the Class of 2013 by Perfect Game USA and the No. 2 prospect by Baseball America, Frazier is a power-hitting outfielder who is off to a fast start for the Red Devils.

In a 14-4 win over crosstown rival Grayson on March 12, Frazier crushed a pair of titanic home runs – a three-run blast in the fourth inning and a two-run job in the sixth – giving him six homers on the season in just seven games. He also had a .600 batting average and 18 RBI during that stretch.

Greatness Past: As a junior, Frazier batted .424 and set single-season school records for home runs (24) and runs scored (55). He has already shattered Loganville’s career home run record (52), nearly doubling the mark set by current major leaguer Brandon Moss.

Greatness Future: Frazier remains undecided upon a collegiate destination but is expected to be selected early in June’s MLB Draft.

Make no mistake: The Gatorade State Baseball Player of the Year races aren’t over, and the National POY race is now heating up. Time remains for one standout student-athlete among thousands to rise to the top of our list.Check back for daily updates on the top contenders making their case.
