THE WINNER: Brannen Greene

THE BASICS

School: Tift County (Tifton, Ga.)
Grade: Senior
Position: Shooting guard
Height: 6-foot-7
Weight: 200 pounds

Athletic achievement: Heaveraged 27 points, nine rebounds, six assists and two steals while shooting 91 percent from the free throw line this past season, leading the Blue Devils (26-5) to the Class AAAAAA quarterfinals. Georgia’s 2013 Mr. Basketball, Greene scored a season-high 37 points in a win over Westover (Albany, Ga.) this year and concluded his prep career with more than 2,000 points.

Academic excellence: Greene has maintained an A-minus average.

Exemplary character: He has volunteered locally on behalf of Habitat for Humanity, the Adopt a Highway program and as part of a community effort to collect canned goods for families in need.

THE PRAISE

“Brannen Greene is a very good player and definitely the best I saw this year in our state,” said Mike Thompson, head coach at McEachern (Powder Springs, Ga.). “He’s a very good shooter and can get to the rim on anybody. He will be a very good player at the next level.”

THE FUTURE: Greene has signed with Kansas.
