Justin Sawmiller sets national career receptions record

Kenton (Ohio) senior had one of the American Family Insurance ALL-USA Performances of the Week

Kenton, Ohio, rolled through the National Select 7-on-7 championship in Hoover, Ala., this summer, surprising much larger schools. The Ohio teams in Kenton's own classification haven't had any more luck, thanks in large part to Justin Sawmiller.

Sawmiller, a 6-1 senior, had 12 catches for 156 yards and a touchdown and ran for a touchdown in a 48-2 defeat of Elida on Friday, breaking the national record for career receptions in the process. He has 362 career catches. The old mark of 358 was set last season by Davis Howell of the Christian Academy of Knoxville, Tenn.

Kenton, which uses a hurry-up spread offense, is 7-0 this season and ranked No. 1 among Ohio's Division IV schools, the state's second-smallest classification.

Sawmiller is also closing in on the state record for most career reception yardage as he needs 21 yards to break the mark of 5,172 yards, set in 2008 by Fairview (Sherwood) receiver Ben Wonderly.

Sawmiller leads the American Family Insurance ALL-USA Performances of the Week. The rest of the top performances:
