Big week for girls across the country in high school football

South Plantation (Fla.) senior Erin DiMeglio played two snaps in a 31-14 win over Nova (Fla.)

It was a big week for girls in high school football. Erin DiMeglio became what is believed to be the first girl to start at quarterback in a varsity game in Florida, handing off twice for South Plantation (Plantation, Fla.). Claudia Moreno, in her first varsity action at Escondido, Calif., kicked the game-winning extra-point in a 28-27 defeat of Rancho Bernardo. For their efforts, both players made the American Family Insurance ALL-USA Performances of the Week.

Erin DiMeglio, South Plantation (Plantation, Fla.)

Senior became what is believed to be the first girl in Florida to play quarterback in a varsity game in a 31-14 defeat of Nova (Davie). DiMeglio also plays girls varsity flag football and is the starting point guard on the South Plantation girls basketball team.

Junior ran for three touchdowns on only four carries in a 61-0 defeat of Lake Mead Academy (Henderson, Nev.). He carried for touchdowns of 21, 44 and 2 yards, all in the first half.

QB, 2013
Senior Passed for three touchdowns and ran for three in a 49-14 defeat of Keokuk.

Heath Harding, Dayton Christian (Dayton, Ohio)
RB, 2013
Senior ran for five touchdowns, returned a kick for a touchdown and returned an interception for a touchdown in a 72-40 defeat of Preble Shawnee (Camden).

Claudia Moreno, Escondido (Escondido, Calif.)
K, 2013
Senior kicked the winning extra-point in a 28-27 defeat of Rancho Bernardo. Moreno also plays soccer and softball for Escondido.

Lewis Neal, James Hunt (Wilson, N.C.)
DE, 2013
Senior defensive end had three first-half sacks, forcing a fumble that became a touchdown in a 28-14 defeat of Southwest Edgecombe (Pinetops, N.C.). Also assisted on a tackle for a loss and batted down a pass.

Quez Nesbitt, Greer (Greer, S.C.)
RB, 2014
Junior ran for 314 yards and five touchdowns and caught a touchdown pass in a 63-14 defeat of Riverside (Greer).

Zach Pate, Hurricane (Hurricane, W.Va.)
RB, 2014
Junior had 491 all-purpose yards. He ran for three touchdowns on 11 carries and had two touchdown catches in a 51-21 defeat of Nitro.

Tyler Reid, Churchill (Eugene, Ore.)
RB, 2014
Junior had had 412 all-purpose yards and seven touchdowns in a 56-21 defeat of South Eugene.

Stanvon Taylor, East Central (Tulsa, Okla.)
WR, 2013
Senior had eight catches for 186 yards and two touchdowns, passed for a touchdown and had four tackles and a pass breakup in a 53-31 win at Del City.
