St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) quarterback Josh Rosen would love to say that his sport is responsible for producing the best athletes. But he can’t.

“I’ve gotta be honest; I don’t think it’s football, actually,” Rosen said. “Overall, I’d have to say it’s tennis. It’s a very athletic sport - the most athletic.”

Shocked?

Here are the reasons Rosen gave for voting against his own sport.

Why did you go against your sport and say the ultimate athlete was in tennis?

You have to be in elite shape to play tennis; it’s really hard. There are a lot of lateral movements and pretty much everything that you can think of athletically is something you’ve got to have in tennis.

For anyone who disagrees, what drill specific to tennis would you like to see them try?

Well, look at matches. Take a seven-hour match going five sets. You’re on your own having to mentally and physically overcome every point while constantly running back and forth. It’s a really tough sport.

What sport comes after tennis in producing the best athletes?

Rugby.

What's the best measure of a true athlete (strength, speed, quickness, agility, etc.)?

I personally think it’s how much of a psychological edge they have.

Who is the best athlete in the sport of tennis, past or present?

Roger Federer.

What is the best example of something you have done personally that shows why tennis has the ultimate athlete?

Well, I used to play tennis and I was nationally ranked and everything. One time I was at the Orange Bowl in Florida in the international tournament and a kid hit it over my head and I hit a tweener down the line for a win.
